The Visual Arts Studio is based in the Tramway arts venue on the South side of Glasgow. It has been in existence for over 15 years and run by Glasgow Education Department. While the studio was originally established as an extra curricular programme for Senior Art and Design pupils interested in applying to Art School the studio now welcomes application from a wide range of backgrounds.

Since the Visual Arts Studio took up residence in the Tramway in 2000 we have formed strong links with Tramway's visual arts team giving our students opportunities to approach their work differently by accessing the unique resources within the venue. For the last two years our students have been given the opportunity to work in Tramway 2, one of Europe's largest exhibition spaces. As you can imagine this has added a new dimension to the portfolio work and also increased the number of our students choosing to study Fine Art.
The Studio is fortunate in having high quality teaching staff with a range of expertise and experience. The present portfolio tutors have worked with the Studio over a number of years and as practising artists each brings a width of skills to the course introducing the students to activities like paper making, book binding, textile and screen printing, jewellery work forming with wire and texturing metals, photography and computer imaging. In addition each tutor also incorporates drawing in their course work to explore and develop ideas.
The Studio has followed the career paths of many of our students, some have become successful artists regularly exhibiting their work, others have set up their own business, while a few have chosen to pass on their knowledge and expertise through teaching.
Our annual exhibition opens on the 4th of September in the newly refurbished Tramway 5
